What does Stone Brewing, Charlotte Russe, and Scalematrix have in common with MIS?
With the start of another semester under way, you are one step closer to graduating and entering the daunting job market! As part of the MIS society we hope to prepare you for what’s to come after graduation by providing you with valuable information and networking opportunities. You may not realize it yet, but the time to start thinking about your future career is now. With the MIS society and the events we host, not only are you exposed to topics in the IT field, but you are also privileged with networking opportunities and the ability to ask questions to our experienced guest speakers. These guest speakers once upon a time were in your shoes and now have knowledge to pass along to you. Take advantage of what they have to say and learn from their mistakes and learn from their successes. Not many students have the opportunity to say they have heard the career journey of the Brian Andrews, the Vice President of Information Technology at Stone Brewing. Or heard of Debra Jensen’s transition from Longs Drug Stores to now being the Senior Vice President and CIO of Charlotte Russe. These speakers will tell you, you need to push yourself to network and have the want to innovate yourself. We provide you with the knowledge to be successful, but you have to make the effort to attend these meetings and if possible one of our field trips. Last semester, we had a eye opening networking event at the Scalematrix datacenter where we were able to network with IT companies in the San diego area as well as getting a tour of the impressive and state of the art facility. The mission of the MIS society is to provide you a networking system as well as tools and knowledge needed to excel in today’s constantly evolving IT industry. We are hoping our guest speakers as well as the blog posts that we will be posting on the MIS society’s page will help you throughout your college career here at CSUSM.
